Dr. Denis Baskin is Senior Research Career Scientist at the VA Puget Sound Medical Center and Research Professor of Medicine and Biological Structure at the University of Washington School of Medicine in Seattle. He received his Ph.D. degree from the University of California, Berkeley. His research focuses on CNS regulation of food intake and body weight. The goal of Baskin’s research is to understand brain neuroendocrine mechanisms that regulate energy balance and how they are altered in diabetes and obesity. He has made extensive use of histochemical techniques in his research and is a past president of the Histochemical Society. He is a former Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry and now serves as the Journal’s Executive Editor.
