Dr. Nanci is a professor of Cell Biology, Director of the Department of Stomatology and Director of the Laboratory for the Study of Calcified Tissues and Biomaterials at the Faculty of Dentistry at Université de Montréal.
Dr. Nanci is a Past-President of the Association of Dental Research. He was a member of The Histochemical Society Council from 2003-2006; Chaired the HCS Publications Committee from 2005-2008 and is the HCS President-elect for 2011-2012.
Dr. Nanci is an Associate Editor for the Journal of Histochemistry and Cytochemistry.
His research interests are the study of the cell and molecular events implicated in the formation of normal and pathological calcified tissues (tooth and bone), in their repair and in the osseointegration of biomaterials. Ultimately, the interested is in translating the knowledge acquired to the development of innovative therapeutic approaches and biomaterials based on biologics. More specifically, the laboratory is developing nanostructured surfaces that can intrinsically provide physicochemical cuing for cell differentiation and can selectively influence cell growth. The approaches used are histochemistry, electron microscopy, molecular analyses, and local gene transfer.
